UMTS Test Solutions

Overview

GL's UMTS Test Suite consists of both UMTS Analyzer and Emulator covering all the major interfaces in the UMTS network. The Analyzer provides capturing and decoding capabilities across various interfaces. And the emulator is capable of simulating the major interfaces across the Circuit-Switched (CS) as well as Packet-Switched (PS) data in the UTRAN network. The suite provides wide-ranging capabilities that meet the versatile testing of UMTS network.
IuCS Interface (over IP)
Emulation and Analysis

GL's MAPS™ UMTS IuCS interface can emulate the Radio Network Controller (RNC) and Mobile Switching Centre (MSC) nodes by generating RANAP and DTAP signaling messages over SCTP. MAPS™ IuCS emulator also supports Iu User Plane Interface (Iu-UP) protocol layer of the Radio Network with additional licensing (PKS103) to carry RTP traffic (AMR payload part) over Iu interface.

 
IuH Interface (over IP)
Emulation and Analysis

MAPS™ UMTS IuH interface can emulate Femto Home Node B (HnB), and a Femto Home Node Gateway (HnB-GW) by generating RANAP and DTAP signaling messages over SCTP.

MAPS™ UMTS-IuH also supports Mobile and Gateway GTP traffic over packet-switched network with additional licensing.

IuPS Interface (over IP)
Emulation and Analysis

MAPS™ UMTS IuPS Interface Emulator can emulate Radio Network Controller( RNC), and Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN) by generating RANAP and DTAP signaling messages over SCTP as defined by 3GPP standards.

GnGp Interface
Emulation and Analysis

GL's MAPS™ Gn Gp Interface Emulator is an advanced protocol simulator/tester for GTP simulation over Gn, Gp interfaces that can simulate GTP messages and signaling specification as defined in 3GPP standards.

The tester supports simulation of SGSN and GGSN network elements for error tracking, regression testing, and load testing.

 
 
IuCS Interface (over ATM)
Emulation and Analysis
GL's LightSpeed1000™ is an optical hardware test platform with quad optical ports. MAPS™ IuCS ATM application on this hardware supports simulation of UMTS IuCs interface over ATM transport. MAPS™ IuCS ATM uses SSCOP server for establishing SSCOP links over which RANAP, ALCAP, and DTAP signaling will be carried for making calls.

The LightSpeed1000™ also comes with UMTS Analyzer software for overall monitoring, analysis and troubleshooting UMTS network on optical links.
 
UMTS Protocol Analyzer
GL's UMTS Analyzer is capable of capturing, decoding and performing various test measurements across various interfaces i.e. Iub, Iur, IuCS and IuPS interfaces of the UMTS network. In addition, it supports ATM as the transport layer, and it helps in fault diagnosis and troubleshooting of UMTS network.

GL’s PacketScan™-All IP Protocol Analyzer supports monitoring all interfaces over 3G UMTS networks such as IuCS, IuH, IuPS, and Gn Gp in addition to IP protocols such as SIP, RTP, and more. The protocol analyzer is capable of capturing, decoding and performing various test measurements across various interfaces.
 
Traffic Generation and Monitoring

GTP Traffic Simulation modules within MAPS™ support user-plane traffic simulation in UMTS networks.  GTP, or GPRS Tunnelling Protocol are the methods for sending IP traffic in Wireless Networks such as UMTS.  The solution includes Mobile IP traffic (ETH101 / PacketLoad), Packet traffic (ETH100 - BERT, Hex String, and HDL File) and Mobile Gateway traffic (ETH102) types of traffic simulation. These modules also support generation and verification of data traffic such as FTP, Web (HTTP) and more.

 
 
Centralized Monitoring
of UMTS Network
GL’s UMTS Test Suite supports testing UMTS over IP, Optical, and TDM networks. The above UMTS network indicates the support for most of the interfaces by GL’s test tools.

With GL’s TDM, Optical, and PacketScan™ analysis probes, along with NetSurveyorWeb™, user can perform centralized monitoring of entire UMTS network.
 
UMTS Communications Network Lab
GL offers an End-to-End 3G UMTS Communications Network Lab (CNL) with all components such as NodeB, Home NodeB, Home NodeB Gateway, UMTS core network elements such as RNC, MSC, and GPRS core elements such as SGSN, HLR, and GGSN to support mobile call and traffic emulation. The possible simulation includes both User Plane and Control Plane; circuit-switched voice and packet-switched data traffic simulation, resembling real user activity (like web-browsing).
