Air Traffic Control Communications Engineer

Location : GL USA - Gaithersburg, MD

Job Description

GL is searching for an experienced telecommunications engineer with expertise in air traffic control communications technologies. GL possesses many solutions for testing and evaluating air traffic communications networks for performance, latency, voice quality and more. The engineer should possess knowledge of Voice over IP and legacy protocols for transferring voice (analog, TDM, etc.) as it relates to air traffic control. Prior work experience with Air Navigation Service Providers such as the FAA is desired. This position is only open to US citizens and may require local travel to contractor facilities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering or computer science, from an accredited university
  • Minimum five years work experience related to Air Traffic Control communications technologies such as ED-137
  • Strong knowledge of telecommunications including legacy protocols
  • US Citizenship is required

This individual will respond to customer inquiries and recommend the optimal solutions that GL can provide.

This individual must have outstanding written and oral communication skills and the ability to understand GL's extensive product line. The successful candidate will convey GL's solutions in a simple manner to customers. This individual will also produce quotes, invoices and shipping lists.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Outstanding communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, QuickBooks (preferred but not required)
  • Ability to grasp technical concepts related to telecommunications and information technology

Job Description

  • Conduct organizational studies and evaluations
  • Conduct work simplification and measurement studies
  • Update and maintain accurate transit administration via in-house data management tool (MAXIMO)
  • Prepare operations and procedures manuals to assist management in operating more efficiently and effectively
  • Design systems and procedures

Qualifications:

  • MBA Preferred
  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum 3 year working experience in the transportation industry
  • 3 years experience working with data
  • Ability to use MAXIMO efficiently

Professional Engineer

Location : GL USA - Gaithersburg, MD

Job Description

GL Communications is seeking a certified Professional Engineer in electrical engineering discipline to assist and lead current and future consulting projects. Prior experience with Transit Systems, including Automatic Train Control (ATC) or Railroad Signaling is preferred but not required. This position will require daily interaction and discussion with GL clients and therefore strong communication skills are required. The individual should have prior experience leading projects involving design and construction management/project management to successful conclusion. Past experience in the following subjects is highly beneficial:

  • Communications Systems and Infrastructure - Wired and Wireless
  • CCTV and Video Management Systems
  • Public Address (PA)
  • LED Signs
  • Power Systems
  • Security and Access Control Systems
  • Communications backhaul and IT-Related Infrastructure

The requirements for this position are:

  • Must have a Bachelor degree in Engineering or science discipline
  • At least 5 years of professional work experience
  • Must hold an active Professional Engineer license in either electrical (preferred) or civil engineering
  • Must be authorized to work in the USA without sponsorship
  • Must be willing to travel locally within the Washington DC metropolitan and Baltimore areas

Fiber Optic Field Inspector/Technician

Location : GL USA - Gaithersburg, MD

Job Description

  • Able to interpret and understand Fiber Optic Design Packages, containing installation drawings and detailed splice matrices.
  • Monitor and inspect contractors during fiber optic installations and splicing.
  • Knowledge and experience with Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) testing. Able to review OTDR test results performed by others.
  • Knowledge and experience with Optical Loss Test Set (OLTS) testing. Able to review OLTS test results performed by others.
  • Some experience performing OSP fiber optic cable splicing is a plus.
  • Desired, but not required certifications:
    • IN101: BICSI Installer 1 Training
    • IN250: BICSI Installer 2 Optical Fiber Training
    • TE350: BICSI Technician Training
    • IN225: BICSI Installer 2 Copper Training

Information Technology or Communications Technician/Inspector

Communications Systems Field Inspector - Fiber Background

Location : GL USA - Baltimore, MD

Job Description

GL Communications Inc. is seeking a Systems Field Inspector that can perform systems inspection/field engineering duties on various transit projects in the Baltimore, MD area. A strong knowledge of fiber based communications systems and equipment installations is required. The person will oversee and document contractor field installations and maintenance operations on various transit projects. A knowledge of industry standard installation practices and methods is required.

Senior Systems Engineer/Project Manager

Location : GL USA - Gaithersburg, MD

Job Description

Responsible for Engineering design, planning and project management of large transit infrastructure deployment. Supports System assessment efforts; Preliminary and Final Design Reviews; Systems implementation and migration efforts; Systems interface/integration/testing; documenting the pre-implementation conditions of vehicles and facilities; Implement Configuration Management process; Conducts and facilitates inspection and testing; logging and reporting daily project activities; Work with other engineers, system analysts, programmers, technicians, and managers for existing systems evaluation and system upgrades.

Work Experience Requirements

  • Ten or more years of experience in Transit Systems Engineering
  • Experience with Project Schedule Development and Budget Analysis
  • ITS, Fiber and Telecommunications Infrastructure Knowledge
  • Leadership and Communications skills
  • Management/Supervisory experience a plus

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree required (BS in technical field desired)
