Advanced ED-137 and ED-138 Test Solutions for ATM Networks
GL offers advanced test solutions for next-generation Air Traffic networks, enabling precise emulation and load testing of Controller Working Positions (CWPs), Ground Radio Stations (GRSs), gateways, and analog-to-IP converters. These tools assess performance, functionality, and timing accuracy. Fully compliant with EUROCAE ED-137, they support signaling and traffic emulation for both air-to-ground and ground-to-ground links. For ED-138-based service quality monitoring, GL provides detailed voice metrics—such as MOS, jitter, latency, and packet loss—with PESQ and POLQA scoring for accurate voice quality evaluation.
Fully compliant with the latest ED-137 standards, GL’s solution ensures seamless interoperability and adapts quickly to revisions and future updates. Trusted by Air Navigation Service Providers and manufacturers of Voice Communication Systems (VCS), radios, recorders, and gateways, GL’s ED-137 and ED-138 VoIP Test Tools support development, verification, load testing, and deployment. The test suite also includes timing measurement tools for accurate signal and voice delay analysis. GL actively engages in industry groups and offers full IPv6 support for modern IP-based infrastructures.
ED-137 Interface Emulation for Air Traffic Systems
GL’s Message Automation and Protocol Simulation (MAPS™) framework supports protocol emulation across Analog, TDM and VoIP technologies. It emulates ED-137-compliant Radio, Telephone, and Recorder interfaces per EUROCAE ED-137 standards for testing VoIP-based ATM systems. MAPS™ runs on the Windows® operating system and uses the PC’s network interface card to send and receive traffic.
- MAPS™ Radio: Emulates air-to-ground calls by emulating CWPs or Radios according to ED-137 Volume 1 Radio
- MAPS™ Telephone: Emulates ground-to-ground calls by emulating CWPs per ED-137 Volume 2 Telephone. It optionally supports Addendum 2: FAA Legacy Telephone Interworking, Addendum 4: Override Call, and Addendum 5: Voice Call
- MAPS™ Recorder: Emulates recorder interfaces at CWP, GRS, and Recorder server per ED-137 Volume 4 Recorder. It can emulate hundreds of CWPs or Radios, generating bulk air-to-ground and ground-to-ground calls using a single instance/license
All the emulators support ED-137 B and C (with Change 1 and 2), IPv6, and are validated with the EUROCAE VOTER tool. The tools perform load and functional testing of CWP, VCS, GRS, Recorder, and Gateway interfaces. Users can edit messages, emulate custom/negative test cases, and apply IP impairments like loss, duplication, latency, and out-of-sequence packets.
Comprehensive Voice Quality Monitoring and Network Surveillance for ATM Systems
Measuring voice quality, latency, and packet loss is critical for safe air traffic communications. GL’s PacketScan™ captures and monitors live signaling and traffic per ED-138 standards, analyzing both Ground-to-Ground and Air-to-Ground calls. It provides detailed metrics like MOS, jitter, delay, and packet loss. Multiple probes can send call records to a centralized database. NetSurveyorWeb™ offers web-based access to real-time and historical data with charts, alarms, filters, user access control, and email alerts—supporting network-wide surveillance and analysis.
End-to-End Delay and Voice Quality Measurement for Air Traffic Systems
Accurate timing is essential for ANSPs and equipment vendors to evaluate performance. GL’s Timing Measurement in Air Traffic Management solution enables precise delay and voice quality measurement across analog, TDM, and IP interfaces. It includes hardware and software to emulate, capture, timestamp, and correlate events like PTT On/Off, Squelch, Mute/Unmute, and Main/Standby Tx/Rx transfers. Modules include a central administrator system, Packet Analyzer with GPS timestamping and TTL mapping, Audio Analyzer for PESQ/POLQA scoring, and Discrete Signal Logger. The solution supports automated, repeatable testing for both lab and field deployments.
