High-Speed Packet Capture and Deep Protocol Visibility
Across IP Networks
17th, Apr 2026
Modern telecom networks carry dense mixtures of signaling, voice, video, and wireless traffic across high-speed Ethernet links. Traditional software-only analyzers often drop packets under load, making root-cause analysis difficult and time-consuming.
PacketScanPX™ from GL Communications combines the deep protocol intelligence of PacketScan™ with hardware-assisted wirespeed capture and filtering capabilities of PacketExpert™ to provide accurate visibility across high-speed IP networks. This enables engineers to troubleshoot performance and cyber security issues faster and with greater confidence.
Capture Traffic at Wirespeed
PacketScanPX™ enables high-accuracy monitoring across high-throughput Ethernet interfaces with:
- Hardware-assisted capture up to 3 Gbps wirespeed
- Simultaneous bidirectional monitoring
- Selective capture using hardware-level filtering
- Nanosecond-accurate timestamping for precise event correlation
This ensures reliable visibility into network traffic and media performance during troubleshooting, and investigations of anomalous network activity.
Filter on Traffic of Interest
Instead of capturing everything and filtering later, PacketScanPX™ allows engineers to filter traffic before packets reach the analyzer engine.
The device supports up to 16 hardware filters per port, including:
- MAC address filtering
- VLAN ID and priority filtering
- IP address and DSCP filtering
- TCP/UDP port filtering
- MPLS label filtering
- Frame-size conditions
- Raw hex bytes filtering at desired offset
This reduces trace size and significantly speeds up troubleshooting activities. Captured traces can be exported in PCAP and PCAPNG formats for extended offline analysis.
Analyze Voice Traffic
PacketScanPX™ correlates signaling activity with RTP media performance across multiple telecom technologies:
- LTE EPC interfaces (S1, S3, S4, S5/S8, S6a, S10, S11)
- VoIP/IMS signaling (SIP, SDP, RTP, RTCP, MSRP)
- UMTS over IP (IuCS/IuPS interfaces)
- GSM over IP (A and Abis interfaces)
- SIGTRAN SS7 over IP (M2PA, M3UA, SUA, IUA)
This enables faster identification of call setup failures and interoperability issues across multi-vendor environments.
Accurate Quality of Service Metrics
PacketScanPX™ provides detailed service-performance measurements including:
- MOS and R-Factor scoring
- RTP packet statistics per direction
- Jitter and latency measurements
- Round-trip delay monitoring
- Packet discard statistics
- Media Delivery Index for video monitoring
These KPIs help engineers validate service quality during deployment, troubleshooting and interoperability testing.
Centralized Visibility with NetSurveyorWeb™
PacketScanPX™ integrates with NetSurveyorWeb™ to provide centralized monitoring across geographically separated capture environments, with visibility into:
- Call detail records
- Protocol fields
- Traffic summaries
- QoS trends
- Performance analytics dashboards
This enables teams to collaborate efficiently across remote locations.
