Newsletter: GL Releases GSM A and GSM Abis Emulation

Welcome to another July 2009 issue of GL's Newsletter providing information and insight into our GSM A and GSM Abis Emulation products and software.

Overview

GSM is the global standard for mobile voice and data communications. The handheld mobile and the BTS communicate across the radio link, or air interface(Um). Subsequently, the BTS, BSC, and MSC communicate across Abis and A interfaces. GL has solutions for the analysis and emulation of Abis and A interfaces.

GSM A Interface Emulation

Our Message Automation & Protocol Simulation (MAPS™) has been enhanced to support GSM A emulation. MAPS is a powerful Protocol Test platform - supporting a wide range of protocols such as ISDN, SS7, SIP, Megaco, MGCP, and many more.

MAPS for GSM A can simulate BSSMAP and DTAP messages and the signaling specification as defined by 3GPP standards. It supports testing network elements MSC and BSS, Error tracking, regression testing, conformance testing, load testing/call generation, and generation of high volumes of GSM traffic. It is able to run pre-defined test scenarios against GSM A interface test objects in a controlled & deterministic manner.

MAPS™ GSM A supports powerful utilities like Message Editor, Script Editor and Profile Editor which allow new scenarios to be created from existing scenarios using BSSMAP and DTAP messages and parameters.

GL also provides an independent GUI based GSM protocol analyzer (optional application) for online capture and decode of the signaling in real-time both during tests and as a stand-alone tracer for live systems.

MAPS™ GSM A Testing Features

  • GSM A Interface simulation over TDM (T1 E1)
  • Configurable to act as either BSC or MSC
  • Multiple T1 E1 line interfaces supported
  • User-friendly GUI for configuring MTP Layers
  • User configurable signaling links
  • Supports all call control, mobility management, and radio resource messages

For comprehensive understanding of the product, please refer to MAPS GSM A Emulation web page.

GSM Abis Interface Emulation

MAPS™ has also been enhanced to support GSM Abis Emulation. MAPS GSM Abis can simulate BTSM messages and signaling as defined by 3GPP standards. The tester supports testing network elements BTS and BSC, Error tracking, regression testing, conformance testing, load testing/call generation, and generation of high volumes of GSM Abis traffic. It is able to run pre-defined test scenarios against GSM Abis interface test objects in a controlled & deterministic manner.

GSM Abis Interface Emulator supports powerful utilities like Message Editor, Script Editor and Profile Editor which allow new scenarios to be created or editing of existing scenarios using BTSM messages and parameters.

GL also provides an independent GUI based GSM Abis TRAU protocol analyzer (optional application) for online capture and decode of the signaling in real-time both during tests and as a stand-alone tracer for live systems.

GSM Abis Testing Features

  • GSM Abis Interface simulation over TDM (T1 E1)
  • Configurable to act as either BSC or BTS
  • Multiple E1 T1 line interfaces supported
  • User-friendly GUI for configuring LAPD Layer
  • Supports DCM, RLM, CCM message groups
  • Configure AGCH, ACCH, SDCCH, BCCH and other logical channels
  • Supports all call control, mobility management and radio resource messages
