Advanced IP Traffic Analysis for Faster Network Troubleshooting and Root-Cause Identification
16th, Oct 2026
Troubleshooting IP network performance issues such as high latency, TCP retransmissions, packet loss, congestion, throughput degradation and connection failures can be challenging, particularly when identifying whether issues originate from the network, client or server. GL Communications' TCP and IP Analytics™, integrated within PacketScan Web™, simplifies troubleshooting by converting captured network traffic into structured session-level analytics. Supporting real-time and offline analysis, the solution provides TCP performance monitoring, endpoint and conversation analysis, interactive dashboards, advanced filtering and graphical visualization to help engineers identify bottlenecks and investigate root causes.

Network Monitoring and Analytics Dashboard
The IP Analytics™ Dashboard provides graphical and statistical network traffic analysis through five views:
- Overview: Displays Packet Rate, Data Rate, Protocol Hierarchy and Packet Size Distribution
- Top Talkers: Identifies high-traffic clients, servers and applications
- Connections: Analyzes TCP connection activity, retransmissions, resets, failures and congestion events
- Performance: Displays TCP efficiency and Round-Trip Time (RTT) distributions
- Issues: Highlights packet loss, retransmissions, congestion and connection failures
TCP Conversation and Performance Analysis
IP Analytics™ provides detailed session-level visibility into TCP communication between network endpoints, including:
- TCP throughput, packet rate and byte rate
- RTT measurements and latency variations
- TCP retransmissions, packet loss and out-of-order packets
- Congestion-window and receiver-window behavior
- TCP acknowledgments, resets and connection events
- TCP efficiency, connection duration and session timing
Interactive graphs display forward and backward traffic behavior, helping engineers identify throughput variations, congestion conditions and abnormal TCP transmission patterns.
Multi-Level Endpoint and Conversation Analysis
IP Analytics™ provides MAC, IP, TCP and UDP endpoint and conversation analysis, displaying source and destination addresses, ports, packet and byte counts, session duration and traffic distribution. TCP Endpoint Analysis further identifies high-activity endpoints, retransmissions, resets, congestion and connection failures.
Identifying the Root Cause of Network Performance Issues
IP Analytics™ helps engineers investigate TCP performance issues originating from the network, server or client:
- Network Issues: High RTT, packet loss, TCP retransmissions and congestion-window reduction
- Server Issues: Receive-window limitations, delayed acknowledgments and connection refusal events
- Client Issues: Slow acknowledgment generation, session setup delays and limited transmission-rate behavior
TCP session statistics, endpoint behavior and packet-level information help engineers narrow down potential causes of network performance degradation.
Advanced Filtering and Packet-Level Drill-Down
IP Analytics™ provides session-based and expression-based filtering using IP addresses, ports, TCP efficiency, RTT, TCP events, flags, window parameters and session duration. Selected TCP conversations can be examined through the Packet Analyzer and Detailed View for protocol decoding, raw packet data and detailed troubleshooting.
TCP Statistics and Interactive Visualization
IP Analytics™ provides TCP connection statistics, top clients, servers and applications, connection failures, congestion events, packet loss, retransmissions, TCP efficiency and RTT distributions. Interactive Bar, Line and Pie charts help visualize traffic distribution, connection behavior and network performance trends.
Real-Time and Offline Traffic Analysis and Reporting
IP Analytics™ supports real-time network monitoring and offline analysis of previously captured trace files from GL applications, including PacketScan HD™, FastRecorder™ and PacketExtractor™ and PacketScan™.
Downloadable Excel reports provide TCP conversation statistics, endpoint details and client/server connection summaries, while graphical reports help visualize traffic and network performance characteristics.
