Error-Free Duplex 400 Gbps Packet Capture with Event Triggering, Hardware Filtering, Real-Time Monitoring, Packet Extraction, and Remote Multi-User Access
Overview
Modern Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) infrastructures, hyperscale data centers, telecom backbone networks, and cloud environments are rapidly adopting 400G Ethernet technologies to support massive traffic growth and low-latency network communications. As network speeds increase, maintaining continuous packet visibility across high-speed bidirectional links without packet loss has become a major operational challenge.
To help engineers address these challenges, GL Communications provides a high-performance Duplex 400G Packet Capture and Extraction Solution designed for continuous long-duration traffic recording, intelligent packet filtering, real-time monitoring, packet extraction, and offline traffic analysis across ultra-high-speed networks.

Built on GL’s FastRecorder™ platform, the solution enables non-intrusive packet capture at up to 2 × 400 Gbps while supporting event-triggered recording, nanosecond timestamping, hardware-assisted filtering, and browser-based remote monitoring.
High-Speed Duplex 400G Packet Capture and Recording
GL’s FastRecorder™ and PacketExtractor™ platform is optimized for sustained full-duplex packet capture under high-load operating conditions. Using high-performance SmartNIC acceleration and optimized NVMe SSD storage architecture, the solution supports sustained full-duplex packet recording directly to disk while minimizing packet loss during extended capture operations.
The platform supports:
- Duplex 400G packet capture up to 800 Gbps aggregate throughput
- Continuous recording from weeks to months
- Recording rates up to 6 TB per minute
- Event-triggered or continuous recording workflows
- Circular recording to continuously retain the latest traffic
- Multi-port traffic merging with synchronized timestamps
- Nanosecond precision timestamping
Advanced hardware-assisted filtering enables users to capture only traffic of interest using MAC, VLAN, IPv4/IPv6, tunnel traffic, TCP, and UDP parameters. Filters are configured before starting the recording session, enabling targeted packet capture and efficient storage utilization during high-speed recording operations.
The browser-based FastRecorder™ interface provides real-time visibility into capture rates, recording throughput, frame statistics, link utilization, dropped frames, and port-level statistics.
Integrated Rate and Error Graphs help engineers quickly identify traffic anomalies, dropped packets, congestion conditions, and network impairments during active recording operations.
Users can continuously monitor recording performance and traffic behavior through an intuitive web-based dashboard optimized for high-speed Ethernet and IP monitoring environments.
The Linux-based web interface supports centralized remote management and browser-based monitoring across multiple systems within the same LAN environment.
The platform also supports multi-user access, multi-server connectivity, and REST API automation for scalable deployment and integration into automated monitoring workflows.
Engineers can remotely manage recording operations, configure filters, monitor capture statistics, and control packet extraction processes directly from standard web browsers without requiring local system access.
Intelligent Packet Extraction and Offline Analysis
PacketExtractor™ enables users to process previously recorded traffic and extract specific packets or sessions into PCAP and PCAPNG formats for detailed offline analysis. Engineers can perform extraction using time-based filters, packet count limits, file size limits, protocol filters, and session-based filtering.
PacketExtractor™ helps engineers rapidly isolate relevant sessions from massive recorded datasets, reducing troubleshooting time and simplifying forensic traffic investigations across high-speed network environments.
The extracted traces can be analyzed using GL’s PacketScan™ HD or Wireshark® for advanced troubleshooting, protocol analysis, cybersecurity investigations, and forensic diagnostics.
