Press Release: GL Communications Opens Office in Shanghai, China

Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA.- February 24, 2003 - GL Communications announced today that it is expanding into Asia to meet the growing demand for its test and simulation products. Vijay Kulkarni, GL's president and CTO, said that the company will open a new office in Shanghai this April. GL's Senior Manager, Robert Bichefsky, will be responsible for the China operation. "Carriers in Asia have the same fundamental concern as their counterparts all over the world-maintaining the highest quality of service," Bichefsky said. "The massive deployment of communications systems throughout Asia, new VoIP networks and a host of other new equipment and technologies present increasing challenges for telecommunications engineers. GL Communications is ready to help meet those needs in China and the rest of Asia."

GL Communications products are used extensively by the world's top telecommunications carriers and manufacturers. Specializing in hardware and software design, GL Communications offers a complete line of PC-based and Laptop-based test and measurement equipment for wired, wireless, and optical systems. The hallmarks of GL test and simulation equipment are intuitive interfaces and ease of use, but with powerful, advanced capabilities. Windows-NT/2000/XP software platforms afford easy and friendly operation.

GL's T1/E1/T3/OC-3 / STM-1 software and hardware provides customers with a wide range of telecommunications testing options, including: call and signaling analysis (DTMF, MF, MFC-R2, etc.), protocol analysis (ISDN, SS7, GR-303, Frame Relay, HDLC, V5.X, etc.), G.168 echo cancellation testing, voice quality testing (PAMS/PSQM/PESQ), BERT testing and much more.

GL also offers a versatile line of products through its Digital Central Office Switch Simulator (DCOSS) that is ideal for simulating and testing advanced telecommunications networks such as switches, gateways, and transmission systems. DCOSS can introduce simulated traffic on an established call (Fax, Modem, Voice, Digits, and Tones) and provide Quality of Service analysis for each type of traffic. A new line of GL products now offers both testing and simulation for VoIP systems.

Said Kulkarni, "Our job is to help manufacturers and carriers remain competitive. Throughout much of the world there is a dramatic expansion of communication networks. Making sure that these new systems work at their optimum performance levels is absolutely critical to success. That's why we see a growing demand around the world for testing and simulation products. We are very bullish on the future of telecom and will continue to expand our international operations to meet market demands."

The Shanghai office will be the fourth GL facility. In addition to its headquarters in Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA, the company also has offices in Los Gatos, California, USA and Malleshwaram, Bangalore, India. GL also maintains a worldwide network of resellers and distributors in Israel, Great Britain, Australia, Japan, Korea, and the Czech Republic, among other countries.
