Voice Analysis Tool - Automated Analysis For Easy Voice Testing On Any Network

30th, Oct 2026

Analyzing large volumes of recorded voice files can be time-consuming, particularly when evaluating voice quality, delay, audio levels, and speech dropouts. Manual analysis of individual recordings can increase testing effort and make it difficult to quickly identify voice quality issues.

GL Communications' Voice Analysis Tool (VAT™) automates the analysis of recorded audio files by monitoring a user-specified directory and processing files as they become available. The tool performs configured audio measurements, evaluates results against predefined thresholds, and stores the results in a centralized database for further analysis and reporting.

Voice Analysis Tool

Why Engineers Choose VAT™

  • Multiple Audio Measurements from a Single Recording: Delay, dropout, P.56 levels, bandwidth, and voice quality scores run simultaneously on a single recording
  • Automated File Detection and Analysis: Monitors a user-specified directory and automatically analyzes newly available audio files, reducing manual intervention
  • Remote Test Management: The VAT™ CLI manages one or many nodes over LAN, WAN or Internet, on Windows® and Linux®
  • Supports Multiple Audio Formats: 16-bit Narrowband (NB), Wideband (WB), and Super-wideband (SWB) PCM recordings, as well as 8-bit A-law and μ-law formats from VQuad™, vMobile™, and other compatible applications

Comprehensive Voice Analysis Capabilities

Each test has a predefined pass/fail threshold, and results are evaluated accordingly:

  • Round-Trip and One-Way Delay: Correlation against a reference file to measure round-trip and one-way delay
  • Audio Analyzer: Measures maximum frequency bandwidth and audio power to help distinguish NB, WB, and SWB recordings and identify potential audio issues
  • P.56 Analyzer: Speech activity, active speech level, noise level, DC offset and total RMS power
  • Dropout Analysis: The percentage of reference speech actually present, and where the gaps fall
  • Double-Talk: Send and record at the near end on 2-wire analog (FXO) and 4-wire interfaces
  • Speech to Text: WordMatch or TextMatch against an expected sentence, for confirming IVR and voice mail prompts, with GL's Speech to Text software
  • Voice Quality: POLQA (ITU-T P.863) and PESQ (ITU-T P.862) scores combined with GL's VQT™ software

Automated Test Selection Using File Naming Conventions

Analytical test combinations are configured in a single VATProfile.ini file. A combination such as CBO02 = RTD01|VQT01|AUD01|P5601 groups multiple tests and their settings for a single recorded audio file. For instance, using a single audio recording, VAT™ can perform multiple tests such as Round-Trip Delay, Voice Quality (POLQA), Audio Analyzer and P.56 analysis. Each test within the combination uses its individually predefined parameters for additional flexibility. For individual measurements, users can select manual analysis from the available analytical tests.

Centralized Results and Reporting

All results are sent in real time to GL's WebViewer™ central database and made available through user-specified custom reports in the WebViewer browser. Users can filter results by various parameters, including Call ID, Event ID, Device ID, time and date, and export them to CSV, PDF or Excel®. During drive or walk testing, when GPS coordinates are available, results can be plotted directly on Google Maps.
