Overview
High-speed Ethernet links are found in local area networks, metropolitan area networks, and wide-area networks. Testing network performance of high-speed Ethernet links is challenging and requires specialized test tools. GL’s PacketExpert™ hardware offers many industry-standard testing modules including bit error rate testing, RFC 2544, loopback mode functionality, ITU-T Y.1564 for verifying service level agreements, and RFC 6349 for TCP throughput testing.
Furthermore, PacketExpert™ can act as a network tap and captures traffic in both directions. The captured traffic can be transferred to the PC and stored on the hard disk in Wireshark formats for later analysis (Record functionality) or sent out on a different port for real-time analysis (PacketBroker™). It also supports wirespeed filtering to capture only traffic of interest. The filtered packets can also trigger a TTL pulse output which can be monitored from an oscilloscope. PacketExpert™ can also playback pre-recorded traffic onto a network to help simulate real-world network traffic in the lab.
GL’s IPNetSim™ supports Wide Area Network (WAN) emulation by impairing selected streams of traffic as they pass through the device. This product emulates a WAN link and introduces typical WAN impairments like bandwidth throttling, latency, packet loss, packet reordering, packet duplication, and packet corruption. PacketExpert™ offers all these capabilities as optional licenses and is the most cost-effective solution in the market.
Engineers that manage large Ethernet/IP networks must find ways to remotely test and monitor their networks for performance. PacketExpert™ provides convenient remote access capabilities. It can be deployed at a remote site and at a local site for an end-to-end network test.
