Bit Error Rate Testing (BERT) Applications

Overview

Bit Error Rate Testers measure data integrity and express the ratio of received bits that are in error relative to the amount of bits received. GL's BERT Applications are available across diverse range of platforms that include TDM, Optical, Wireless, Ethernet, and IP/UDP.  One very powerful feature of our BERTs, are their multichannel capabilities, i.e tens, hundreds, and even thousands of simultaneous Tx/Rx BERTs.
Ethernet/ MAC, IP, UDP BER Testers

PacketExpert™ 1G, PacketExpert™ 10G: Perform Wire speed BERT simultaneously on all Optical or Electrical ports of up to 10 Gbps capacity. The application allows to generate and analyze specific BER patterns through Ethernet frames at specified rates. The payload (or pattern) of received frames are analyzed in detail to detect errors and mismatch in the payload. Test can be performed at all layers - Layer1, Framed Ethernet (Layer2), Stacked VLAN (Q-in-Q), Stacked MPLS (Layer 2.5), IP and UDP.

PacketCheck™: GL's enhanced PacketCheck™ is a PC based Ethernet / IP BERT and Throughput test tool that is very easy to use. It truly takes confusion out of Ethernet testing at all protocol layers - from raw Ethernet frames to IP/UDP packets.

 
Optical BER Testers

LightSpeed1000™ supports Bit Error Rate Testing over ATM and PoS OC-3 / STM-1 and OC-12 / STM-4 interfaces.

PoS Bit Error Rate Test : PoS BERT run over IP over PPP payload area. The application allows to configure layer 3 IP parameters such as IPv4 headers, generates/detects Pseudo Random Bit Sequence (PRBS) patterns, and user-defined bit patterns.

ATM Bit Error Rate Test : ATM BERT application permits BER testing over ATM channel operating over SONET SDH circuits. The application allows to configure ATM headers for UNI & NNI interfaces, to generate/detect Pseudo Random Bit Sequence (PRBS) patterns, and user-defined bit patterns. 

Channelized SONET SDH Analyzer: The application provides Bit error rate testing (BERT) pattern generation and detection on any or all of 336 T1s or 252 E1s per OC-12/STM-4 port.

T1 E1 BER Testers

GL's T1 E1 platform BERT Applications:

Simple BERT: The BERT application generates/detects unframed, framed, and fractional data. In addition to these, drop and insert capability is provided. A variety of standard Pseudo Random Bit Sequence (PRBS) data patterns are available for test purposes including static and user selected patterns.

Enhanced BERT: The enhanced Bit Error Rate Tester measures the correctness of data received on T1/E1 lines (contiguous and non-contiguous timeslots, sub-channels) according to a repetitive fixed or pseudorandom pattern for a given transmission.

ATM BERT: GL's T1/E1 ATM BERT application permits BER testing across an ATM channel operating over PDH circuits.

Multichannel BERT: Multi-channel Bit Error Rate Testing (MCBERT) measures correctness of data received on full or fractional T1/E1 lines with stored data in a reference file. The application can work in real-time data, or off-line with data file.

 
T3 E3 BER Testers

GL's USB T3 E3 Analyzer application measures the correctness of data received on T3/E3 channels for a repetitive fixed or pseudorandom pattern for the given transmission. It supports BERT with full frame and unframed data pattern.
