FAA VoIP Interoperability Event

Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA - May 29, 2019 - GL Communications Inc., a global leader in telecom test and measurement solutions, addressed the press release event regarding GL's participation in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Voice over IP (VoIP) Interoperability Event held from April 29th to May 10th, 2019 in Atlantic City, USA.

FAA VoIP Interoperability Event

Speaking to the press, Mr. Vijay Kulkarni CEO of the GL Communications Inc said, “GL Communications supported the FAA throughout the event with test equipment and technical expertise during the test sessions. There were approximately Twenty products from Fourteen vendors that interacted with each other using the latest ED-137 Version C standards as defined by EUROCAE.

In addition, all vendors also used GL’s MAPS™ ED-137C Telephone Emulators and MAPS™ ED-137C Radios to interact with as part of the test case scenarios that were used during the sessions. The emulators interacted extremely well with all of the vendors’ products; thus, confirming that the emulators and the products were both in compliance with the ED-137 Version C and ensuring interoperability.

The GL Communications’ “PacketScan™” analyzer and “NetSurveyorWeb™” applications were also used for centralised monitoring of tests between the vendors. These software tools reported on performance metrics like MOS, Packet loss, Packet Jitter, Packet Delay, etc., as measured on all calls. PacketScan™ (acting as a probe) was connected to the mirror port of centralized switch to non-intrusively monitor all traffic between the vendors. The Probe system captured frames, segregated into calls, measured performance metrics and sent Call Detailed Records to centralized database. The NetSurveyorWeb™ centralized database allowed multiple users to remotely monitor all the test sessions. Graphical reports for important KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) such as MOS, Packet loss, Failed calls, etc., were displayed on an hourly and daily basis throughout the event.

Event observers included FAA teams, US DoD, EUROCAE and ANSPs. EUROCONTROL, Romatsa, Hungarocontrol, NAV Canada and LPS used NetSurveyorWeb™ to monitor the test sessions remotely. The NetSurveyorWeb™ application was configured on-the-fly, with predefined filters to monitor the tests of individual vendors. GL presented all its ATM Test Solutions to the observers in the opening ceremony”.

GL's ATM Test Solutions

Air Traffic Management networks

GL offers robust test solutions for simulation and analysis of Air Traffic Management networks.

GL's simulation platform Message Automation & Protocol Simulation (MAPS™) can simulate both Air-to-Ground and Ground-to-Ground calls as per EUROCAE's ED-137 Volume 1 Radio and Volume 2 Telephone standards. Emulators support both B and C version of Radio and Telephone standards. GL also has simulator for Recorder interface at VCS, GRS and Recorder server as per version B of ED-137 volume 4 Recorder.

PacketScan™ can capture all the ATM network non-intrusively to monitor all Air-to-Ground and Ground-to-Ground communications and measure Voice Quality metrics like MOS, Packet loss, Jitter and Delay as per ED-138 standards.

GL's Centralized NetSurveyorWeb™ system is a web-based network surveillance system for air traffic monitoring. The application facilitates display of call detail records (CDRs) by connecting to protocol analysis probes through a web server for monitoring calls and generate graphical reports for KPIs such as MOS, Packet loss, Failed calls etc over a period of time.

GL's TM-ATM™ is a custom suite of test tools designed to accurately measure various types of delay occurrence in signaling (such as PTT and Squelch) and voice transmission at both analog and IP interfaces. It can also measure end-to-end voice quality scores such as PESQ and POLQA.

Important Features of GL’s ATM Test Solutions

  • Simulation of Network Elements within Next Generation Air Traffic Management (ATM)
  • Critical Delay, Jitter, & Voice Quality Measurements
  • Monitoring Probes for Next Generation VoIP ATM Network
  • Centralized ATM Network Surveillance
  • Timing Measurements in Air Traffic Management (TM-ATM) is a test suite which accurately measures various types of delay occurrence in signaling and voice transmission.
