Press Release: GL Introduces New Tool for Deploying, Maintaining, & Monitoring Optical Networks
Gaithersburg, Maryland.- January 6, 2003 - GL Communications today introduced a new tool to test, analyze, simulate
and monitor optical networks. Like other products in the GL family of test equipment, its hallmarks are an intuitive interface and ease of
use, but with powerful and advanced features. The new product is the Ultra OC-3 / STM-1 card. The Card comes with OC-3, STS-1, T3, T1
and E1 interfaces. The board can add and drop T1, E1, T3, or STS-1 signals to and from an OC-3 signal, and can also add and drop T1
and E1 signals to and from an STS-1 or T3 signal. Multiple Ultra OC-3 / STM-1 cards may be used in conjunction with GL's Ultra T1 Cards,
Ultra E1 Cards and Ultra T3 Cards in the same PC to provide a complete OC-3, DS3, DS1, E1 and DS0 testing solution.
Accompanying Windows-NT/2000/XP software affords easy and friendly operation.
The Ultra OC-3 / STM-1 card plugs into a standard PC expansion PCI slot. Once inserted, the OC-3 / STM-1 card provides network engineers with
the ability to interconnect OC-3, STS-1, T3 (DS3) signals in a wide variety of scenarios including the ability to extract T1, E1, and VTs
from the higher rate multiplexed streams. The Card is ideally suited for installation, maintenance, commissioning, verification and
manufacturing of SONET transport networks and network equipment.
The Ultra OC-3 / STM-1 cards can be used in conjunction with GL Communications' other products in the same personal computer to provide
a wide variety of testing solutions in one compact unit. The GL products work in conjunction with Windows NT/2000/XP software for
easy and universally accepted application. GL has designed the Ultra OC-3 / STM-1 graphic displays to be both powerful and intuitive for the user.
Because SONET is the international standard for fiber optics networks, the Ultra OC-3 / STM-1 Card will find applications worldwide.
GL is able to service international demand through its offices in the United States and India, and through representation in Israel,
Great Britain, Australia, Japan, Korea, the Czech Republic and elsewhere.
A detailed description of the Ultra OC-3 / STM-1 card can be found at www.gl.com/OC-3analyzer.html. As with all GL products, the
engineering staff is happy to discuss specific needs and applications. To talk to a GL engineer, call Shelley Sharma at +1-301-670-4784, ext. 114.
