Light Rail Customer Information System

Baltimore, MD, USA

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) had been considering an upgrade of its Agency Wide Customer Information System including Public Address (PA) system and a Light Emitting Diode (LED) Sign systems for its patrons. Light Rail was the first one planned for procurement and GLCI was tasked to develop this Information for Bid (IFB) for Light Rail CIS with emphasis on details of equipment placement and conduit plans for all the Light Rail stations from Hunt Valley to Cromwell and including the Penn and BWI Airport extensions for all 35 Light Rail stations.

Conducted detailed station surveys and provided design engineering for development of system specifications. Participated in the stakeholders’ information gathering process to capture all requirements. Performed ambient noise measurements at the representative stations. Developed conduit schedules, cable routing, PA speakers and LED signs placement for contract drawings. Made recommendations for upgrades of the Light Rail WAN (OTN) system, to include Ethernet platform upgrades, in preparation for the bandwidth requirements of the new system implementation.
