Enhanced SIP Protocol Test Suite

Welcome to another August 2015 issue of GL's Newsletter providing information and insight into our enhanced SIP Protocol Test Suite that comprises (MAPS™ SIP, MAPS™ SIP HDMAPS™ SIP I and MAPS™ SIP Conformance Test Suite ).  A  typical SIP based VoIP network is shown below.

SIP Protocol Test Suite

Overview

GL's MAPS™ SIP can simulate any interface in a SIP network, including, multiple User Agents (User Agent Client, User Agent Server), Registrant, Proxy, Redirect, and Registrar Servers.

GL's MAPS™ SIP is also available in an enhanced High Density version in a special purpose 1U network appliance that is capable of high call intensity (hundreds of calls/sec) and high volume of sustained calls (tens of thousands of simultaneous calls/1U platform).

The SIP Conformance Test Suite is designed with 300+ test cases, as per SIP specification of ETSI TS 102-027-2 v4.1.1 (2006-07) standard.  Test cases include general messaging and call flow scenarios for multimedia call session setup and control over IP networks. Logging and pass/fail results are also reported. Test cases verify conformance of actions such as registration, call control, proxies and redirect servers.

GL'sMAPS™ SIP I can simulate SIP-ISUP signaling specification as defined by the ITU / IETF standards ITU-T Q.1912.5. MAPS™ SIP-I provides only the IP side of the Gateway at both ingress and/or egress depending on what one is trying to emulate.

The application gives the users the unlimited ability to edit messages and control scenarios (message sequences). "Message sequences" are generated through scripts. "Messages" are created using message templates.

In general, MAPS™ is a powerful Protocol Test platform, supporting a wide range of protocols including TDM, IP, and Wireless infrastructure protocols. The MAPS™ provides fault insertion, and erroneous call flow testing capability. It supports scripted call generation and automated call reception and its ready scripts makes testing procedure simpler, less time consuming and hence time to market SIP products.

GL's PacketScan™ - an All-IP Network Monitoring software offers powerful features to capture and monitor live signaling and traffic over IP.  It captures, segregates, monitors and collects statistics on all IP calls. Almost all VoIP and Wireless protocols over IP transport layer can be captured and decoded for troubleshooting network problems.

GL also provides PacketScan™ HD for High Density IP Traffic Analysis w/ 4x1GigE Network Monitoring and PacketScan™ FB, a File Based IP Traffic Analyzer Server for near real-time processing of traces. The below table provides an all encompassing view of the test suite.

MAPS™ SIP can be used to simulate any interface of the VoIP network.  A single MAPS™ can act as more than one SIP entity at a time and can generate any SIP message on wire in VoIP network and hence equipment needed to test are reduced.

MAPS™ SIP also supports VoIP implementation as per ED-137B of EUROCAE standard to simulate bothController Working Group and Radio Media GatewaySystem.

MAPS™ SIP supports evaluation Gateway / ATA products for call connectivity, call signaling, traffic generation, voice quality testing, codec, and hundreds of other features.

MAPS™ SIP supports transmission and detection of various RTP traffic such as digits, voice file, Pass through FAX, single tone, and dual tones.

Monitoring SIP and SIP I Signaling & Traffic

Using GL's  PacketScan™ thousands of calls can be monitored in real-time including detailed analysis of selected voice band streams. Applications include testing of IP phones, Gateways, IP Routers and Switches, and Proxies. Supports all most all industry standard protocols.

Users can listen/record audio and video data of a session in real-time; perform power, frequency, spectral, tone and digit analysis, and video analysis with ease and precision; get an exact picture of QoS (quality of the service).

PacketScan™'s  ability to monitor / record audio and video data of a session to files (in QuickTime *.qt format), allows user to perform powerful video analysis.

PacketScan™ with Voice, Data, and Video QoS capability addresses customers long felt need of call quality analysis in IP networks. It also provides detailed call statistics such as packet loss, gap, jitter, delay, RTP performance statistics, R-factor & MOS scores, and unparalleled voice band statistics can be monitored simultaneously. Sophisticated filters permit zooming and recording of specific calls of interest.

SIP I Protocol Test Tool

SIP-I Typical Call Flow

SIP-I Typical Call Flow

MAPS™ SIP I is designed for SIP-I Testing and it can simulate Signaling Gateway / Softswitch as a User Agents Client (UAC), which sends SIP requests with ISUP message and User Agent Server (UAS), receiving and returning SIP responses with proper ISUP message attached.

MAPS™ SIP I supports transmission and detection of various RTP traffic such as, digits, voice file, Pass through FAX, single tone, and dual tones.

SIP Conformance Test Tool

MAPS™ SIP Conformance Suite includes inbuilt basic and conformance scripts (*.gls) that allows itself to act as User Agent Client and to perform Proxy, Redirect Server, Registrar and UAS conformance testing.

Proxy Conformance Testing
Entire Proxy testing can be automated with ready built-in scripts.

Redirect Server Conformance Testing
Test the redirection call scenarios with DUTs.

Registrar Conformance Testing
MAPS™ acts as Registrant and generate registration request messages to automate the entire Registrar (DUT) testing.

UAS Conformance Testing
MAPS™ acts as UAC and sends request messages to test DUT (UAS).

UAC Conformance Testing
MAPS™ acts as UAS and responds to messages from UAC (DUT).

Registrant Conformance Testing
MAPS™ acts as Registrar and processes the received registration request messages from Registrant (DUT).
